A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Nyesom Wike has begun the sale of nomination forms in preparation for its upcoming national convention.

The move was announced on Monday after the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where key leaders assessed readiness and set timelines for the exercise. The convention is slated for March 29 and 30, 2026.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the party urged all aspirants to strictly follow the approved guidelines and timelines.

The statement, jointly signed by the Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Acting National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, confirmed the development.

“NEC noted that the sale of nomination forms for the forthcoming national convention has commenced. All interested aspirants are advised to comply with the approved guidelines and timelines as issued by the party,” the communiqué stated.

The committee also reaffirmed the party’s zoning arrangement for national offices, noting that it would guide the distribution of positions to ensure regional balance during the convention.

Party leaders used the meeting to emphasise their readiness, directing all relevant organs and committees to ensure a smooth, credible, and transparent process under the theme, “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal.”

They further called on members to remain united and disciplined, stressing the supremacy of the party in resolving internal disputes.

The development comes amid a prolonged leadership crisis that has plagued the PDP since November 2025. The crisis deepened after an earlier convention in Ibadan produced Kabiru Turaki and members of a National Working Committee for a four-year term, with leadership transitioning from Umar Damagum.

However, a rival faction loyal to Wike later constituted a 13-member caretaker committee, triggering tensions within the party.

The crisis escalated on November 18 when both factions attempted to hold parallel meetings at the party’s national secretariat, prompting the Nigeria Police Force to seal the premises.

Following a series of legal battles, the Court of Appeal, in a ruling delivered on March 9, 2026, nullified the Ibadan convention, citing violations of the Electoral Act, the Constitution, and the PDP’s internal rules.
