Authorities in Saudi Arabia have officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon.
The announcement was shared on Wednesday via HaraminInfo’s verified social media platforms, confirming the end of Ramadan in the kingdom.
According to the statement, “The crescent moon has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, 20th March 2026.”
The message also included prayers for Muslims, urging them to make the most of the remaining moments of Ramadan and asking Allah to accept their fasting, prayers, and good deeds.
With Saudi Arabia’s declaration now public, attention in Nigeria shifts to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, who is expected to announce the official date for Eid in the country after consultations with Islamic leaders and moon-sighting committees.
The Sultan’s decision will determine whether Nigerian Muslims will observe Eid on the same day as Saudi Arabia or a day later, depending on local moon sightings.
Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is celebrated worldwide with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity among Muslim faithful.
