Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday arrived in Zamfara State to formally welcome Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was received by a high-powered delegation of governors, federal lawmakers, and party leaders upon arrival in the state.
A grand reception is scheduled at the Gusau Trade Fair Complex, where the vice president is expected to formally receive Lawal, members of his cabinet, and thousands of supporters into the APC.
Among those present to welcome Shettima were governors including Umar Namadi, Uba Sani, Dapo Abiodun, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Others included are Caleb Mutfwang, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Ahmad Aliyu.
Top party figures such as the APC National Chairman, the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, alongside ministers and other dignitaries, were also in attendance.
Governor Lawal had earlier defected to the APC on March 9 after consultations with political stakeholders, party leaders, and supporters across Zamfara State.
According to his camp, the move was driven by the need to ensure stability, accelerate development, and align the state with the ruling party at the federal level.
The event marks a significant political shift in Zamfara, as the APC strengthens its foothold ahead of future elections.
