Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has once again expressed his willingness to represent the Nigeria national football team, saying it would be a privilege to wear the country’s colours.
The 28-year-old centre-back, who currently plays for Chelsea F.C., made the remark while reflecting on his connection to Nigeria and his admiration for the national team’s recent performances.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Adarabioyo remains eligible to represent Nigeria through descent. Although he featured for England national under-21 football team and other youth sides, he has never been capped at senior level for England national football team.
Speaking during an interview, the defender said a recent holiday in Nigeria strengthened his bond with the country and its diverse culture.
“I played for England at youth level and was born in London, but I’m still connected to Nigeria, where my family comes from,” he said. “I spent my holiday there last summer and it’s an amazing country with many cultures. I followed the Super Eagles during the last Africa Cup of Nations and they’re a fantastic team. I would be delighted to wear the Super Eagles jersey, but for now my focus remains on my club ambitions.”
For years, Adarabioyo’s international future has sparked debate, largely because of his long association with England’s youth teams. Despite his development within the English system, a senior call-up from England never materialized, leaving the door open for a potential switch to Nigeria.
His latest remarks could renew interest from the Nigeria Football Federation, particularly as the Super Eagles continue to monitor eligible players abroad who have yet to represent another country at senior level.
With the defender now in his late twenties and still uncapped internationally, the possibility of him committing to Nigeria remains a topic that could resurface in the coming months.
