The Ogun State Government has introduced new relief measures for civil servants, approving a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance to ease the burden of rising living costs.
Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the approval as part of efforts to cushion the impact of increased fuel prices and transportation expenses. The initiative will run for an initial period of three months, starting from April 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, who explained that the measures are aimed at providing relief to workers while maintaining productivity across the state’s workforce.
According to him, eligible workers will enjoy one day off duty each week, alongside the ₦10,000 transport allowance, which serves as a temporary palliative.
However, the weekly day-off policy will not apply to essential workers, including medical personnel, teachers, judicial staff, security officers, and heads of departments. These categories of workers will, nonetheless, benefit from the transport allowance.
Onasanya added that accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will determine suitable days off for workers under their supervision to ensure that public service delivery remains uninterrupted.
He described the intervention as timely and urged civil servants to respond with renewed commitment and improved efficiency in their duties.
