Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim is reportedly on course to become the next manager of SL Benfica this summer, as the club prepares for a change in the dugout.

According to reports, the 41-year-old coach has been lined up as the preferred replacement for José Mourinho, who is expected to leave Benfica for Real Madrid CF at the end of the season.

Amorim has been without a managerial role since January, when he was dismissed by Manchester United following a difficult spell in the Premier League.

The move to Benfica is seen as an opportunity for the Portuguese coach to revive his career and rebuild his reputation back home, where he remains highly regarded after his successful time at Sporting CP.

Despite his struggles in England, Amorim’s achievements in Portugal have kept him among the country’s most respected young managers, making him an attractive option for Benfica’s leadership.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is reportedly preparing for a switch to Real Madrid after guiding Benfica to a third-place finish in the league this season.

The veteran manager also secured qualification for the Europa League, capping a campaign in which Benfica reportedly remained unbeaten throughout the domestic season.

If the move is confirmed, Amorim’s appointment would mark a major return to Portuguese football and one of the most notable managerial reshuffles in Europe ahead of the new season.
