Former Chelsea FC star Joe Cole has called on the club’s owners to consider a sensational return for legendary manager Jose Mourinho as the Blues continue searching for stability.

Chelsea are once again expected to appoint a new permanent manager following another disappointing campaign, and Cole believes Mourinho remains the best option to rebuild the club.

The Portuguese coach, famously known as “The Special One,” previously enjoyed two successful spells at Stamford Bridge, winning multiple trophies including three Premier League titles.

Although Mourinho is currently managing Benfica and remains under contract until 2027, speculation about his future has continued to grow in recent weeks.

Reports across Europe have linked Mourinho with a possible return to Real Madrid CF, but Cole believes Chelsea should move quickly to bring him back to west London instead.

Speaking on Chelsea’s current struggles, Cole said the club needs an experienced figure capable of restoring direction and identity.

According to the former England international, Mourinho should be handed full control of football matters, including recruitment and squad rebuilding.

Cole argued that Chelsea supporters would fully support the idea if the club clearly committed to a long-term rebuilding project under Mourinho.

The former winger also suggested that giving Mourinho time and authority could help Chelsea return to the top level of European football within a few years.

Despite criticism from some quarters that Mourinho’s methods are outdated, Cole insisted the 63-year-old remains one of football’s elite managers, pointing to interest from Real Madrid as proof that he is still highly respected in the game.

Chelsea have reportedly been linked with several managerial candidates, including Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola, but Cole believes Mourinho represents the safest and most realistic solution for the club’s future.
