Arsenal FC are reportedly preparing a lucrative new contract for manager Mikel Arteta following the club’s historic Premier League title-winning campaign.
According to reports, the new deal would place Arteta among the highest-paid football managers in the world after guiding Arsenal to their first league crown in 22 years.
The Gunners were officially confirmed as Premier League champions on Tuesday night after Manchester City failed to defeat AFC Bournemouth.
Arteta’s current contract is due to expire next summer, but negotiations over an extension are said to be at an advanced stage. The proposed agreement is expected to come with a significant salary increase as a reward for his success at the Emirates Stadium.
The Spaniard currently earns around £10 million annually, alongside performance-related bonuses, including incentives for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Reports suggest Arsenal are ready to move his salary closer to the level earned by top managers such as Diego Simeone, who is believed to be the highest-paid coach in world football at Atlético de Madrid.
Pep Guardiola currently earns about £20 million per year at Manchester City, but Arteta is expected to become the Premier League’s longest-serving manager once Guardiola leaves the Etihad this summer.
Since taking charge of Arsenal in 2019, Arteta has transformed the club into title contenders, rebuilding the squad and restoring belief among supporters after years without major domestic success.
His latest achievement ends Arsenal’s two-decade wait for the Premier League trophy which has now strengthened his status as one of the most highly rated managers in European football.
