Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has donated 300 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to about N114,000, to each pilgrim from the state performing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The governor announced the donation on Thursday night during a visit to Kaduna pilgrims at their tents in Mina.
A statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, said the gesture was aimed at supporting the welfare of the pilgrims during the exercise.
According to the statement, Sani commended the pilgrims and the management of the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for the smooth conduct of the Hajj operations.
He also praised the Kaduna State Hajj Delegation Committee led by Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha for ensuring a successful and hitch-free pilgrimage.
The governor said his administration had made deliberate efforts to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of Kaduna pilgrims throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.
Sani, however, apologised for minor challenges encountered during the pilgrimage, describing them as unintended.
“As human beings, we can only plan, but Allah determines the final outcome,” he said.
The governor also recounted the difficulties he experienced before reaching the pilgrims’ camp, revealing that he trekked for several hours after roads leading to the area were blocked.
“The distance between my tent and the pilgrims’ camp is about two to three kilometres, and ordinarily, I would have arrived quickly. However, all roads leading here were blocked, and I had to trek for about four to five hours before reaching this place,” he said.
Sani urged the pilgrims to continue praying for peace, unity and development in Nigeria, noting that meaningful progress could only thrive in a peaceful environment.
He also prayed for divine guidance for individuals contributing to unrest in society, stressing that political ambition should never be placed above human lives.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Malam Salihu Abubakar, commended the governor for his commitment to improving pilgrims’ welfare.
He said Sani had consistently approved requests aimed at enhancing Hajj operations and ensuring the comfort of pilgrims from the state.
Also speaking, the Kaduna State Auditor General, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, said no governor of the state had visited pilgrims in their tents since 1999 except Uba Sani.
Abdullahi urged the pilgrims to continue supporting and praying for the governor, as well as for sustained peace and development in Kaduna State and Nigeria.
