The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers and recovered stolen vehicles, including a locally made pistol, during intelligence-led operations by its Anti-Robbery Squad.

The suspects Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi  were arrested following coordinated investigations into vehicle theft cases reported across Ogun State and neighbouring areas.

In a statement issued on Friday via the Command’s X handle, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation was triggered by the arrest of Olarewaju, who was intercepted with a suspicious vehicle plate number.

Babaseyi explained that the development led to further investigations, resulting in the arrest of Ayinde, alleged to be the leader of a robbery syndicate operating within the state.

He added that officers recovered a Toyota Sienna earlier reported stolen, along with a fabricated pistol suspected to have been used in robbery activities.

In a related incident, a Toyota Corolla stolen from Ilaro was tracked to Ibadan, Oyo State, where it was recovered from one Arowolo Taoreed.

Adewusi was also arrested in connection with another robbery case, with investigations linking him to a stolen 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport traced to Abuja. Police further recovered a second pistol in Ajah, Lagos State, believed to be tied to the same criminal network.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects belong to a syndicate involved in coordinated vehicle theft and armed robbery operations across Ogun and neighbouring states.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their swift and professional conduct, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime.

“This operation underscores our dedication to intelligence-led policing. We will not allow criminal elements to thrive in Ogun State,” he said.

Ojajuni also assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more stolen vehicles.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

“The cooperation of residents is crucial in combating crime. We encourage the public to make use of our emergency lines to report any suspicious movement,” Babaseyi added.
