Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, widely known as Aki, has expressed surprise over the cost of watching a FIFA World Cup match from a fan viewing area in the United States.
The actor shared his reaction in a video posted on his Facebook page while attending a World Cup fan festival in Dallas, where supporters gathered to watch a group-stage fixture between DR Congo and Portugal on giant outdoor screens.
Speaking in the video, Ikedieze appeared stunned after learning that fans were required to pay $30 to gain access to the viewing area despite not being inside the stadium.
Reacting to the cost, the actor compared the amount to what it could represent in Nigerian currency and noted that the setup reminded him of local football viewing centres back home.
“People came to watch the match and this is not even inside the stadium. It’s just a fan viewing area with big screens and they are charging $30,” he said in the video.
Despite his surprise at the fee, Ikedieze acknowledged that the atmosphere still created the feeling of experiencing the match live.
He described the fan festival environment as similar to popular viewing centres in Nigeria, saying the excitement and energy among supporters made the experience worthwhile.
The actor also pointed to the heavy security presence around the venue and expressed further amazement at additional expenses, including parking fees.
According to him, parking alone also attracted a $30 charge, adding to the overall cost of the experience.
Ikedieze’s comments sparked reactions online as football fans compared the cost of fan experiences abroad with the more affordable viewing culture commonly found in Nigeria.
