Comoros have secured a second-round showdown with Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games after recording a staggering 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
The East African side produced two dominant performances in the opening round, thrashing Sudan 17-0 in the first leg on June 3 before sealing qualification with a 13-0 win in the return fixture five days later.
Comoros showcased their attacking prowess throughout the tie, with multiple players finding the back of the net as they overwhelmed their opponents from start to finish.
In the first leg, the Coelacanths took the lead after just eight minutes and never looked back, delivering a relentless display that saw nine different players get on the scoresheet.
The second leg followed a similar pattern, with Comoros establishing control early on. They scored three goals before halftime and added 10 more in the second half to complete a remarkable 13-0 victory and a 30-0 aggregate triumph.
The emphatic win sends Comoros into the next round, where they will face a much sterner test against reigning African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Nigeria will enter the encounter as favourites, having maintained their status as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
The Falcons, coached by Justine Madugu, head into the qualifiers in impressive form. They recently completed a double victory over Senegal in international friendlies, following up a 2-1 win in the first meeting with a commanding 3-0 triumph at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday.
The second-round qualification matches are scheduled to take place between October 5 and October 13, 2026.
At the end of the qualification series, two African nations will earn tickets to represent the continent in the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
