Governor Peter Mbah has approved scholarships for more than 760 students and teachers across Enugu State under the 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme, in a move aimed at expanding access to education and strengthening human capital development.

The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, in a statement released in Enugu on Tuesday.

According to him, beneficiaries were selected from all 17 local government areas of the state and cut across different academic categories and disciplines.

The approved list includes over 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and 160 public sector teachers.

He explained that successful applicants who passed the Computer-Based Test have started receiving notifications through text messages and emails for verification and documentation, which will be carried out according to local government areas.

Chukwuemeka Mbah said the scholarship programme reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to making education more accessible and equipping residents with the skills needed to support the state’s long-term development goals.

He urged beneficiaries to respond quickly to the invitations sent to them in order to complete the verification process without delays.

According to him, the initiative is part of the state government’s broader education agenda designed to ensure that financial challenges do not stand in the way of qualified residents seeking higher education opportunities.

He added that the scholarship scheme remains open and that additional beneficiaries would be included in subsequent phases.

He encouraged residents to continue applying, stressing that the government is committed to reducing financial barriers and improving access to quality education.

Education remains one of the major focus areas of the current administration, with continued investments in school infrastructure, digital learning, teacher development and scholarship programmes across the state.
