The Ogun State Police Command says the prime suspect in the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan “Kitan” Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, confessed that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that the police launched an investigation after receiving a distress report over suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence. Detectives who visited the scene reportedly found signs of forced entry and violence.
Adetayo’s body was discovered at the security post, while Oyesiku was found dead inside her apartment. Her Lexus RX 330, initially reported missing, was later recovered by investigators.
Ojajuni said a handwritten note found inside the recovered vehicle provided a crucial lead that helped investigators unravel the case.
According to him, forensic analysis of the note led to the arrest of the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, at a construction site in the Ibara area of Abeokuta on Wednesday.
The police commissioner said further investigations resulted in the arrest of two other suspects identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
“Further intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer,” Ojajuni said.
“Further follow-up operations by detectives of the command led to the successful arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho, thereby bringing into custody all identified suspects directly linked to the criminal conspiracy.”
The commissioner said Philip allegedly confessed during interrogation that he masterminded the attack over grievances he had with Oyesiku while working as her security guard.
According to Ojajuni, the suspect told investigators he recruited the two other suspects to carry out the crime and claimed the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”
Police alleged that the suspects overpowered Adetayo before forcing him to grant them access to the residence, where they attacked Oyesiku. They later allegedly killed the security guard and fled with the victim’s vehicle.
“The suspects carried out the act on Saturday, June 20, 2026. They first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” the police commissioner said.
He added that the stolen Lexus RX 330 was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Ojajuni disclosed that investigators recovered several exhibits linked to the suspects, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen.
He, however, stressed that despite the confessional statements and evidence recovered, the suspects remained innocent until proven guilty and would be accorded due process.
“The investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime. The command remains committed to ensuring justice is served,” he said.
