Family members, friends, colleagues and admirers gathered in Lagos on Wednesday to pay their final respects to late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo during an emotional Service of Songs held in his honour.
The solemn event, which marked the beginning of the actor’s funeral rites, took place at the Monarch Event Centre and attracted a large turnout from Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Guests, dressed predominantly in white, came together to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved actor, who reportedly died after a battle with metastatic kidney cancer.
Among the notable personalities in attendance were award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, television host Frank Edoho and singer Chike. Their presence reflected the deep impact Ekubo had on colleagues and friends within the industry.
Also present was actor IK Ogbonna, one of the late actor’s closest friends. Dressed in a white outfit and matching cap, Ogbonna was seen welcoming guests and helping to coordinate activities throughout the ceremony.
The venue was adorned with elegant white floral decorations and framed photographs of the late actor, creating a reflective atmosphere as mourners remembered his life and contributions to Nollywood. Soft melodies from violinists welcomed guests as they arrived, adding to the emotional tone of the evening.
Fashion designer Yomi Casual and his wife were among those who attended the event. Other prominent figures present included Ini Edo, Stan Nze and his wife Blessing Obasi, Segun Arinze, Omoni Oboli, AY Makun, Yvonne Jegede, Nancy Isime, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and reality television star Bryann.
The ceremony also featured cultural performances, with a group of women dressed in traditional Igbo-inspired attire entertaining guests through songs and dance in honour of the late actor’s heritage.
The Service of Songs marks the first in a series of activities planned to celebrate the life of Alexx Ekubo, whose passing has continued to draw tributes from fans, colleagues and stakeholders across the Nigerian film industry.
Widely admired for his talent, charisma and contributions to Nollywood, Ekubo leaves behind a legacy that many say will not be forgotten.
