The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election, Damilola Sonayon-James has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, party leaders and supporters following her emergence as the party’s running mate.
In a statement released on Wednesday via her X account, Sonayon-James described her nomination as a humbling experience and a testament to the opportunities available in Lagos State for individuals willing to serve.
She thanked God for what she called divine guidance throughout her political journey and said her emergence should inspire young people, women and aspiring leaders across the state.
“Today serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities that Lagos offers. I hope my journey continues to inspire others to believe there are no limits to what they can achieve,” she stated.
The APC deputy governorship candidate paid special tribute to President Bola Tinubu, praising his leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.
According to her, Tinubu’s leadership has strengthened democratic institutions and helped place the country on a more stable economic path.
She also acknowledged the support of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party stakeholders who contributed to her emergence.
Sonayon-James further expressed appreciation to the leadership of the APC in Lagos State, particularly members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), for their guidance and commitment to the party’s growth.
She singled out the GAC leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, commending the council’s role in providing direction and stability within the party.
The deputy governorship candidate also thanked traditional rulers, community leaders, women groups, youth organisations and grassroots supporters across the state for their encouragement and support.
She reserved special recognition for the people of Badagry, especially residents of Badagry West, where she previously served, noting that their unwavering support played a significant role in her political journey.
Reflecting on her nomination, Sonayon-James described it as a great privilege to run alongside the APC governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 election.
She pledged to work closely with Hamzat to sustain and build upon the developmental strides that have made Lagos one of Nigeria’s leading economic and commercial centres.
“It is a tremendous honour to fly the flag of our great party alongside Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat. Together, we will continue the progressive governance model that has positioned Lagos as a centre of excellence,” she said.
Sonayon-James concluded by thanking Lagos residents for their confidence and support, while reaffirming her commitment to service, inclusive governance and the continued development of the state.
