Popular broadcaster and Accord Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has dismissed claims that he endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, insisting that he remains committed to supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Hamzat made the clarification in a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday while reacting to a viral video that allegedly portrayed him as backing APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
According to him, the video being circulated was recorded long before the current political developments and has been presented without context to create a misleading impression.
Hamzat explained that the footage originated from an event held on June 21, 2025, during the inauguration of his fan club in Ikire, Apomu and Ikoyi.
He said representatives of Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, attended the event and made a donation to support the fan club.
Providing further clarification, Hamzat noted that at the time the event took place, Oyebamiji had not yet emerged as the APC governorship candidate.
He stated that his comments during the gathering have since been selectively interpreted to suggest a political endorsement that did not exist.
According to him, he had openly stated during the programme that Oyebamiji should first secure the party’s ticket before any political conversation could continue.
Hamzat also pointed out that the event happened before he officially joined the Accord Party, arguing that attempts to link the old footage to his current political position were inaccurate.
He described the circulation of the video as an effort to create a false political narrative and urged the public to critically assess information shared online.
Reaffirming his position, Hamzat declared his support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid, describing the governor’s administration as people-oriented.
He stressed that political engagement should be driven by honesty, integrity and respect for the electorate rather than what he described as recycled content designed to influence public opinion.
Hamzat called on residents of Osun State to disregard the viral video and avoid being misled by misinformation ahead of the election.
