The Osun State Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress has reacted to the recent judgment of the Federal High Court concerning the Accord Party, describing the ruling as a major development that could affect Governor Ademola Adeleke’s bid for re-election ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of its Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the council said it had taken note of the court’s decision, which reportedly derecognised the Accord Party and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to take necessary steps in line with the judgment.
According to the APC campaign council, the suit was anchored on provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC regulations relating to party registration and continued recognition.
The council stated that, as a political platform committed to constitutional democracy and the rule of law, it respected the authority of the court and acknowledged what it described as the implications of the judgment for Governor Adeleke’s political future under the Accord Party.
It argued that unless the Federal High Court’s ruling is overturned by an appellate court, the governor may not be able to contest the forthcoming governorship election under the Accord platform.
The APC further claimed that the situation could extend beyond the governorship race and potentially affect other nominations linked to the party at both state and national levels.
The campaign council also referenced ongoing legal disputes surrounding the leadership structure of the Accord Party at the national level, noting that unresolved issues over the party’s authentic leadership could create additional legal challenges.
According to the statement, a court decision in favour of an opposing faction within the party could further complicate the governor’s eligibility and nomination status.
The APC accused Adeleke of failing to adequately assess the legal and political circumstances surrounding his move to the Accord Party and described the development as a difficult political position for the governor.
The council further argued that the governor’s possible absence from the ballot could deny Osun voters the opportunity to evaluate his administration at the polls.
It also criticised the Adeleke administration over issues including education costs, healthcare services, employment policies and public spending.
Among the allegations raised, the APC questioned the handling of projects and public finances under the current administration, including the Ede Airport project, expenditure records, employment figures and management of government funds.
The campaign council additionally referenced incidents of political violence recorded during the current administration and called for accountability.
Despite its criticism, the APC urged residents of Osun State to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to democratic values as preparations continue for the August 15 governorship election.
