The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued two abducted victims in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state following a coordinated security operation.

The command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the statement, the victims, a 40-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son, were abducted on June 2, 2026, when armed men invaded their residence in Kwarin Gadali Hamlet, Pali District, Alkaleri LGA.

Habib said police operatives swiftly launched an intelligence-led operation after receiving a report of the incident.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives from Pali Outstation immediately visited the scene of the crime and commenced intelligence-led operations to track the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims,” he said.

The police spokesperson explained that a joint security team comprising police officers, military personnel and local vigilantes acted on credible intelligence and arrested three suspects at Kuka Village in Duguri District on the same day.

The suspects were identified as Mainasara Umaru, 23; Buba Umaru, 20; and Muhammadu Usman, 19.

Habib said the suspects were apprehended after investigators traced them to their residence.

He added that ongoing investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects on June 3. According to him, one of the suspects confessed to having knowledge of the kidnapping and disclosed information that assisted security operatives in locating the victims.

The confession further led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Ahmadu Umaru, in Dalgade.

The police spokesperson said the victims were subsequently rescued unharmed during a follow-up operation conducted by the security team.

“Following intelligence-driven operations, the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt on June 3, 2026. They have since been taken to the General Hospital, Alkaleri, for medical examination and attention,” Habib stated.

He noted that all the suspects are currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.

The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover weapons allegedly used in carrying out the abduction.

The latest operation marks another success in the state’s efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
