The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Osun State on Saturday stepped up its preparations for the 2026 governorship election, welcoming defectors from other political parties and mobilising support for its candidate, Dr. Saliu Razak Orisunlagba, during a sensitisation programme held in Osogbo.
The event, which attracted party faithful, supporters and new members, formed part of the party’s grassroots campaign efforts aimed at increasing awareness about its governorship candidate and expanding its support base across the state ahead of the poll.
Addressing participants, the Chairman of the PRP in Osun State, Comrade Kasim Raji, said the gathering served a dual purpose of receiving defectors into the party and promoting its governorship candidate.
According to him, the party remains optimistic about its chances in the forthcoming election, describing Dr. Orisunlagba as a credible and experienced candidate capable of providing leadership for the state.
“We are gathered here to receive some decampees that came to join our party from other political parties,” Raji said.
Raji further described the governorship hopeful as a politician with a clean record, saying the party believes his profile distinguishes him from many others in the political space.
“He’s not corrupt. Therefore, I believe the people of Osun State are going to receive him warmheartedly,” he added.
The state chairman also claimed that several communities had shown interest in meeting the candidate as the election season gradually gathers momentum.
“In fact, most of the communities have been calling him. They want to see him and they want him to come on board,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, a PRP House of Assembly aspirant, Mrs. Raji Bunmi Christiana, said the party was committed to offering effective representation and addressing challenges affecting residents if elected into office.
She urged members and supporters of the party to remain committed to its ideals, expressing optimism about the future of the party in the state.
“The people should be expecting so many positive things,” she said.
The House of Assembly aspirant further expressed confidence in the capacity of the party’s governorship candidate, describing him as competent and prepared for the task of governance.
“The governorship aspirant is someone that is capable,” she said.
She added, “I really have that trust 100 per cent that if people vote him in, he will not disappoint and he’s going to do very well.”
In his remarks, the Organising Secretary of the PRP in Osun State, Abiodun Falodun, said the awareness campaign was designed to introduce the party’s governorship candidate to residents and strengthen support for the party across various wards and local government areas.
Falodun explained that members from different wards participated in the programme to demonstrate solidarity with the candidate ahead of the election.
“We are here today on awareness about our candidate for the gubernatorial election,” he said.
He noted that party members from Ward 8 and other wards in the area attended the event to support the PRP’s campaign efforts.
According to him, the governorship candidate possesses the political experience required to bring change to governance in Osun State.
“The candidate is a very well-experienced personality who has been in politics for long and is ready to work to change the dynamism of the political terrain and governance in Osun,” Falodun said.
Also present at the event was the PRO Hon. Ojo Rotimi Williams, alongside other party executives and stakeholders.
