Italian giants AC Milan have officially appointed Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim as their new manager, ending months of uncertainty over the club’s managerial position.
The appointment was confirmed on Tuesday, with Amorim taking over from Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro as the Rossoneri begin preparations for a new era.
Amorim returns to management after being dismissed by Manchester United in January and now faces the task of restoring AC Milan’s fortunes in Serie A and on the European stage.
Reacting to his appointment, the 41-year-old described the opportunity to lead the seven-time European champions as a career ambition fulfilled.
“There are ambitions that accompany you throughout your career and, for me, coaching Milan has always been one of them,” Amorim said.
The former Sporting CP manager said he fully understands the responsibility attached to managing one of football’s most historic clubs.
“I know perfectly well what AC Milan represents, the history, prestige and extraordinary fans all over the world. It is a challenge that I face with pride and enthusiasm, with full awareness of what these colours mean,” he added.
Amorim also expressed excitement about beginning work with the club and connecting with supporters.
“I can’t wait to start and live every day the passion that animates Milan.”
His appointment has already generated excitement among sections of the Milan fan base, with supporters hoping his progressive style of play and reputation for developing competitive teams can usher in a successful new chapter for the club.
