A man identified simply as Success has reportedly died after allegedly being tortured by operatives of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the So-Safe Corps, in the Oju-Ore area of Ogun State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred along Coca-Cola Road on Saturday, followed a domestic dispute between the deceased and members of his family.
According to accounts shared on social media, Success’s mother reportedly sought the intervention of So-Safe operatives after a disagreement involving her son and his younger brother.
A Facebook post by Ota Gossip alleged that instead of handing the suspect over to the police, the operatives took him to an uncompleted building where he was subjected to severe physical assault.
The post stated that the altercation at the family residence left Success with a head injury before security personnel were invited to intervene.
Eyewitnesses were said to have seen the victim being taken away by the operatives shortly before reports emerged that he had been assaulted at an abandoned building in the Oju-Ore area.
Another social media user, Temitope Adeniyi, alleged that the victim was beaten to death by the security personnel after being taken into custody.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the So-Safe Corps, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, disclosed that the officers involved had been handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
Adegbuyi condemned the actions of the operatives, describing their conduct as a violation of the agency’s operational guidelines and human rights standards.
He explained that the officers, who were deployed following a distress call from the victim’s mother, were expected to report the matter through proper channels but instead allegedly took the law into their own hands.
According to him, the agency immediately transferred the suspected officers to the Nigeria Police Force upon learning of the incident.
He added that one suspect was initially handed over to the police, while another was later transferred to aid ongoing investigations.
The spokesperson stressed that the Commandant of the Corps, Soji Ganzalo, had repeatedly warned personnel against human rights abuses and involvement in matters outside their lawful responsibilities.
He assured that the agency would continue to cooperate with the police to ensure justice is served.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, had not issued an official statement on the matter.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents and renewed concerns over allegations of excessive use of force by security operatives.
