Atlético Madrid have reportedly turned down a €150 million offer from city rivals Real Madrid for Argentine striker Julián Álvarez, reinforcing their determination to keep one of their most prized assets.
The offer was said to have been approved during a meeting of Real Madrid’s board as the Spanish giants continue their search for world-class attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.
However, Atlético wasted little time in rejecting the proposal, making it clear that Álvarez remains a central figure in the club’s long-term plans.
According to reports, Atlético acknowledged the offer but insisted that any discussion regarding the player’s future would only take place under the conditions stipulated in his release clause.
A statement attributed to Real Madrid indicated that the club had formally submitted a €150 million bid for the forward’s federative rights following a board meeting.
In response, Atlético reportedly thanked their city rivals for the offer but declined to negotiate, reiterating their position on the player’s contractual terms.
Álvarez has emerged as one of Atlético’s most influential players since arriving at the club, earning praise for his work rate, versatility, pressing ability and eye for goal.
Club officials reportedly view the 26-year-old as a cornerstone of their sporting project rather than a player available for transfer.
The development also underlines the rarity of transfer dealings between the two Madrid clubs, whose fierce rivalry has historically limited player movement between them.
The rejected bid comes amid reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is preparing an ambitious recruitment drive as part of a renewed “Galácticos” project. The veteran football administrator had recently hinted at a record-breaking signing if re-elected as club president, fuelling speculation about the club’s transfer plans.
For now, however, Atlético Madrid appear determined to hold on to Álvarez despite the substantial offer from their cross-city rivals.
