The global football community has united in support of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen after the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur star suffered a frightening collapse during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday.
The incident, which occurred in the 65th minute of the match in Odense, sparked concern among players, officials and fans worldwide, reviving memories of Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during the UEFA European Championship in 2021.
The 34-year-old midfielder reportedly experienced discomfort before suddenly falling to the ground, prompting immediate medical intervention. Match officials subsequently abandoned the game as medical personnel attended to the Danish playmaker.

“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should,” Boesen said.
The doctor added that Eriksen was taken to hospital for additional examinations to determine the exact cause of the incident, while maintaining that the player remained in good spirits.
“He regained consciousness very quickly, and we were able to speak with him immediately. He also asked me to pass on his greetings to his teammates and assure them that he was okay,” Boesen explained.
The emotional scenes left Denmark’s players visibly shaken, with head coach Brian Riemer admitting that continuing the match was no longer possible.
Riemer said the midfielder even managed to acknowledge his teammates as he was leaving the pitch, but the psychological impact of the incident made it impossible for players to focus on football.
“A few minutes before he collapsed, I thought he was simply affected by a challenge during the game. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. After what happened, neither the players nor the coaching staff were in a position to continue,” he said.
As news of Eriksen’s condition spread, messages of support flooded in from across the football world.
Former club Manchester United expressed relief at the positive update, sending its best wishes to the midfielder and his family.
Tottenham Hotspur, where Eriksen established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders, also offered words of encouragement, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
