Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Adunni Ade has opened up about a closely guarded chapter of her personal life, revealing for the first time that she welcomed a daughter with her longtime partner more than two years ago.
The actress made the surprise announcement while celebrating her birthday, sharing details of the child she affectionately calls “Baby Sal” and explaining why she chose to keep the news private for so long.
In an emotional message posted on social media, Adunni said the decision to shield her daughter from public attention was deliberate, describing it as a way of preserving her family’s peace and protecting a blessing she wanted to enjoy away from the spotlight.
According to the actress, privacy became necessary as she navigated personal challenges and cherished the joy of motherhood without the pressures that often accompany life in the public eye.
“We chose privacy. Not because we owed anyone secrecy, but because peace is priceless, and not everything good needs an audience. We wanted to enjoy our blessing,” she wrote.
Adunni described the birth of her daughter as an answered prayer and one of the most significant moments in her life. She revealed that she and her partner have shared a relationship spanning nearly a decade and welcomed their daughter after years of building their life together.
The actress also used the opportunity to address rumours and assumptions that had circulated online about her personal life.
Without mentioning specific reports, she pushed back against narratives portraying her as a single mother involved in controversy, stressing that her relationship was built on mutual commitment and respect.
“Not every story is a scandal, and not every blessing comes with drama,” she stated, adding that her family was formed peacefully and intentionally.
Adunni expressed gratitude for what she described as God’s faithfulness, saying the arrival of her daughter was proof that beautiful things can happen in their own time.
She also thanked friends, family members and supporters who have consistently shown her love and prayed for her over the years.
Before the revelation, the actress was publicly known as the mother of two sons, D’Marion and Ayden, both of whom frequently feature on her social media platforms. She has often spoken about her strong bond with them and the joys and responsibilities of motherhood.
With the announcement, Adunni is now publicly recognised as a mother of three, introducing her daughter as the newest member of a family she has largely chosen to keep away from the glare of celebrity life.
Born in Queens, New York, to a Nigerian father and a German-Irish mother, Adunni relocated to Nigeria in 2011 and has since established herself as one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses. She has featured in several acclaimed productions, including It’s Her Day, Soólè and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
For the actress, the decision to finally share the news marks the end of a long-kept secret and the beginning of a new chapter, one she says has been filled with gratitude, joy and the blessings of family.
