Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has vowed to continue strengthening the club both on and off the pitch after securing another term in office, while also expressing delight over the return of José Mourinho to the Spanish giants.
Pérez, who was re-elected as president until 2030, used his victory speech to reaffirm his commitment to preserving Real Madrid’s independence, maintaining its member-owned structure and pursuing further success in domestic and European competitions.
The veteran football administrator secured a convincing victory after receiving 21,741 votes, representing 65 per cent of ballots cast, ahead of challenger Enrique Riquelme, who garnered 11,814 votes.
The result extends Pérez’s long-standing leadership of the club, having previously served as president between 2000 and 2006 before returning to the position in 2009.
Speaking after the announcement, Pérez described the outcome as one of the strongest electoral performances in the club’s history and thanked members for their confidence in his leadership.
“We have won the elections and will continue working to keep winning titles,” he said.
“We achieved the second-best result in the history of Real Madrid elections. It is an extraordinary result and a reflection of the trust members have placed in our vision.”
The 79-year-old also disclosed that nearly 1,000 postal votes were invalidated due to procedural issues, adding that the club intends to challenge the decision through the appropriate channels.
Beyond the election victory, Pérez emphasised the importance of protecting Real Madrid’s unique ownership structure at a time when many of Europe’s elite clubs are controlled by private investors, multinational corporations and sovereign wealth funds.
“Real Madrid has been, is and will always remain a club owned by its members,” he declared.
According to him, the election demonstrated the strength of the club’s democratic tradition and its commitment to transparency and unity.
Pérez further stressed that Real Madrid would continue to chart its own course while remaining faithful to its values and traditions.
“This is the Real Madrid we all want, an independent Real Madrid, a club that is never afraid of challenges and obstacles,” he added.
Looking ahead, the club president highlighted ongoing progress both in infrastructure and sporting development.
He praised the transformation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, describing it as the finest football arena in the world, and expressed excitement over the return of legendary coach .
“We are proud of the Santiago Bernabéu, proud of having some of the best players in the world, and proud to welcome back one of the finest coaches in football, a true Madridista, José Mourinho,” Pérez said.
The Real Madrid president also reiterated the club’s ambition to continue dominating European football, setting his sights firmly on a record-extending 16th UEFA Champions League title.
“We will continue working tirelessly to ensure Real Madrid keeps winning trophies, and we will fight until the very end to secure our sixteenth European Cup,” he stated.
In a conciliatory gesture, Pérez extended a hand of friendship to supporters who voted against him, promising to listen to their concerns and work for the benefit of the entire Real Madrid community.
“We must remain united by our shared passion for this club. To those who did not support my candidacy, I assure you that I will do everything possible to address your concerns and earn your trust,” he concluded.
With another six years now guaranteed at the helm, Pérez’s focus will turn to overseeing the next phase of Real Madrid’s sporting and institutional development as the club seeks to maintain its status as one of the most successful and influential football institutions in the world.
