The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that nine registered political parties have collected access codes required to upload candidates’ particulars for the presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The update was provided on Tuesday in Abuja by INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna.
According to Haruna, the parties that have obtained the access credentials include the Accord Party, Action Alliance, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, National Democratic Congress, National Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party and Social Democratic Party.
He explained that political parties are expected to request the access codes directly from INEC, noting that the commission does not distribute them to party offices automatically.
Haruna also clarified that anyone collecting the access code on behalf of a political party must present an official authorisation letter from the party leadership.
He stated that INEC has already issued detailed guidelines for candidate nominations and trained party officials on how to complete the process through the commission’s online portal.
The INEC official advised parties not to delay submission until the final hours, warning that last-minute filings could create avoidable challenges.
According to him, although the commission has extended submission timelines in the past by allowing uploads until midnight of the closing date, responsibility still lies with political parties to complete the process on time.
INEC had earlier scheduled June 27 to July 11 for submission of presidential and National Assembly nomination forms through its candidate nomination portal.
The commission’s election timetable also indicates that governorship and State House of Assembly nomination submissions will take place between July 18 and August 8 as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
