The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has flagged off the free enrollment of traditional rulers, pensioners and persons with disabilities (PWDs) into the Osun State Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare for residents.
The governor also commissioned the newly completed Imole Multipurpose Hall at the OHIS Complex, State Secretariat, Abere, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare delivery system.
In his address, Governor Adeleke urged beneficiaries of the free health insurance programme to make the most of the opportunity by prioritising their health and the well-being of their families.
“I urge all beneficiaries to make good use of this opportunity judiciously for the betterment of their health and that of their families. Good health is essential to improving the quality of life, and this administration will continue to implement policies that guarantee access to affordable healthcare for all residents of Osun State,” the governor said.
Governor Adeleke also highlighted the achievements of his administration in the health sector
He said, “our administration has delivered across the sectors: over 300 kilometres of roads, over 200 rehabilitated primary care centres, over 150 rehabilitated schools, ongoing payments of salary debt and pensions, almost two billion naira for cooperative financing, new tractors and farm inputs for farmers, ongoing five star stadium, and so many other deliveries of good governance.
“Our administration has done well; we deserve to be re-elected.”
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OHIS), Dr. Rasaq Akindele, commended Governor Adeleke for prioritising the health sector through sustained investments.
“There is no doubt that the Imole Multipurpose Hall represents a strategic institutional investment that will enhance the operations of the Osun Health Insurance Agency and improve its revenue generation.”
Dr. Akindele said the governor had demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of vulnerable residents by approving their free enrollment into the state health insurance scheme.
“Today, traditional rulers, pensioners and persons with disabilities have been enrolled into the Osun State Health Insurance Scheme completely free of charge. This reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.”
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers in the state, the Ataoja of Osogbo appreciated Governor Adeleke for extending the health insurance initiative to monarchs across Osun.
“We sincerely appreciate Governor Ademola Adeleke for this thoughtful programme. Including traditional rulers in the state health insurance scheme is a demonstration of his concern for our welfare and that of our people.”
The monarch also pledged the support of traditional rulers for the Adeleke administration.
“We assure Your Excellency of the continuous support and cooperation of traditional rulers across Osun State as you continue to deliver good governance.”
Also speaking, the Osun State Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, praised the governor for placing the welfare of residents at the centre of his administration’s healthcare agenda.
“Governor Adeleke has continued to demonstrate that the health of the people remains a top priority. His investment in the health sector and the enrollment of vulnerable groups into the health insurance scheme will improve access to quality healthcare across the state.”
The event, held at the OHIS Complex in Abere, was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, health sector stakeholders, pensioners, persons with disabilities and other dignitaries, who described the initiative as another significant milestone in Osun State’s drive towards achieving universal health coverage.
