Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly in discussions with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) over becoming the next head coach of the Netherlands national team.
The 47-year-old has emerged as one of the leading candidates to replace Ronald Koeman, who stepped down following the Netherlands’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Koeman resigned after the Dutch were eliminated in the Round of 32, losing to Morocco on penalties, prompting the KNVB to begin the search for a new manager.
According to reports, preliminary talks have already taken place between Slot and the Dutch football governing body, although other candidates are still being considered for the role.
Slot has been without a managerial position since leaving Liverpool in June after a difficult 2025/26 campaign. Despite guiding the Reds to UEFA Champions League qualification, the club opted to part ways with the Dutch tactician following an underwhelming season.
However, Slot remains highly regarded after leading Liverpool to the Premier League title during his debut season at Anfield.
Before his move to England, Slot enjoyed considerable success in his homeland. He began his managerial career at Cambuur Leeuwarden before taking charge of AZ Alkmaar in 2019.
He later joined Feyenoord in 2021, where he enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, winning the Eredivisie title in 2023 and the KNVB Cup in 2024. He also guided the Rotterdam club to the UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2022.
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who currently serves as technical director at FC Twente, has also been linked with the Netherlands job.
The KNVB is expected to announce its new head coach in the coming weeks as preparations begin for the country’s next international campaign.
