Former Minister of Interior and former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed that he completed his eight-year tenure in office without owning a personal house, challenging anyone with evidence to the contrary to make it public.
Aregbesola made the assertion while addressing his supporters in a viral Vedio, saying his time in public office was defined by service rather than the acquisition of personal wealth.
According to him, despite serving as governor for two terms, he did not own a house and instead lived with a friend on his father’s land throughout his administration.
“I’m the first governor in the whole of Nigeria that served for eight years without owning a house. I squatted with my friend for those eight years on my father’s land,” he said.
The former governor challenged anyone disputing his claim to provide evidence of any property he allegedly acquired while in office.
“These politicians, that politicians. Whoever says I am lying should come out and show me the houses and properties I owned during my tenure,” Aregbesola said.
He maintained that his years in office were driven by a commitment to public service rather than personal enrichment, insisting that his record remains open to public scrutiny.
Aregbesola served as Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before he was appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, a position he held from 2019 to 2023.
His comments come amid continued public debate over transparency, accountability and the assets acquired by political office holders during their time in government.
