The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned Nigerians against a fake recruitment update circulating on social media, stressing that the information did not originate from the agency.
The Service urged members of the public to disregard the false recruitment notice and rely only on information published through its verified communication channels for authentic updates on its activities, including recruitment exercises.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NCS described the widely circulated recruitment update as misleading and warned Nigerians against falling victim to fraudsters who exploit the public’s interest in government jobs.
“The Nigeria Customs Service wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service,” the statement read.
The agency advised job seekers and other members of the public to verify all recruitment-related information through its official platforms before acting on or sharing such messages.
It reiterated that all official announcements regarding recruitment and other activities would only be disseminated through its recognised communication channels.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service,” the statement added.
The Service also listed its verified social media platforms as Facebook (Nigeria Customs Service) and its official handles on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads and TikTok (@customsng).
The NCS further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against recruitment scams, reminding the public to always verify information before sharing it.
Recruitment scams have become increasingly common in recent years, with fraudsters using fake employment advertisements to deceive unsuspecting job seekers and extort money under the guise of securing government jobs.
Authorities have repeatedly advised Nigerians to ignore unofficial recruitment notices and avoid making payments to individuals or groups claiming to offer employment opportunities.
