President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), in one of 26 fresh appointments into federal government agencies and commissions.

The appointment, announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes immediate effect.

Fayose, who served two terms as Governor of Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006, and from 2014 to 2018, is expected to bring years of political leadership, administrative experience and grassroots governance to the agency charged with expanding electricity access to underserved and rural communities across Nigeria.

During his tenure as governor, Fayose was known for implementing infrastructure projects, social intervention programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents, particularly in rural communities. His appointment is expected to strengthen the agency’s drive to accelerate rural electrification and improve access to reliable power in remote parts of the country.

As chairman of the REA board, Fayose will work alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors. The board also includes the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors.

President Tinubu’s latest appointments also saw retired Major General Junaid Bindawa named Chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission, alongside appointments into several other federal agencies and commissions.

According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect.
