The Imole Campaign Council, the campaign organisation of Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of alleged collaboration with the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign, Wole Oke, to mislead the public over an alleged assassination plot.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, described the alleged collaboration as “dangerous and unprofessional,” claiming it was aimed at creating false narratives capable of disrupting the peace in the state ahead of the governorship election.
Olajengbesi’s remarks followed the release of a video showing confessions by suspects arrested in connection with an alleged plot involving Wole Oke.
In the video, one of the suspects being paraded by the police said he and some others were invited to the event to provide “security cover” for Oke.
Reacting to the revelation, Olajengbesi accused the police of misinforming the public that the suspects confessed to plotting to assassinate Wole Oke, stating that the video proved otherwise.
“The public deserves the truth. Rather than colluding with political actors, the police should allow a thorough and transparent investigation to determine what truly happened,” he said.
The PDP campaign spokesman also questioned the conduct of the police, describing the development as embarrassing for the Nigeria Police Force and alleging that the force provided misleading information to the public regarding the alleged assassination attempt.
He further claimed that the suspects identified themselves as APC members and alleged that the firearm used in the incident was supplied by another APC member.
Olajengbesi called on the Inspector-General of Police to immediately investigate the matter, including the role played by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, insisting that the truth must be established in the interest of justice and public confidence.
He also urged security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation and make their findings public, warning against actions capable of heightening political tension in Osun State.
