The Airport Police Command, Lagos, has said it will arraign 13 suspects arrested for allegedly stealing building materials from construction sites at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested on July 30 by the Joint Monitoring Task Force during a coordinated patrol around the airport’s construction area.
Adeola said the operation formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and prevent activities capable of disrupting the ongoing rehabilitation of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
He explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Joint Monitoring Task Force apprehended the suspects while they were allegedly in possession of high-value copper cables, iron components and other building materials reportedly removed from the construction site.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the International Airport Police Division for further investigation and prosecution.
Those arrested were identified as Ibrahim Hassan, Haruna Yaya, Ali Muhammed, Walid Shaibu, Idris Musa, Aliu Musa, Mustapha Umaru, Timothy Joseph, Isa Adamu, Musa Abdullahi Hassan, Mamuda Ibrahim, Mukhtar Aliyu and Ibrahim Jidda.
The police noted that despite the successful prosecution of several suspects arrested for similar offences in April 2026, some criminal elements had continued to target construction sites within the airport.
“The suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, commended the Joint Monitoring Task Force for its commitment to safeguarding critical airport infrastructure.
She reaffirmed that the safety and security of the airport remained a top priority and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information.
