Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the Federal Government is deploying strategic road construction and rehabilitation projects as part of efforts to combat insecurity across Nigeria.
Umahi made the remarks during the official commencement of road projects at Muna City Gate along the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru highway in Borno State over the weekend.
According to the minister, President Bola Tinubu’s administration is investing in critical highway infrastructure to improve military operations, reconnect communities affected by years of insurgency, and stimulate economic activities in the North-East.
He explained that the road projects are designed to enhance access to border communities while strengthening logistics for security agencies engaged in counter-insurgency operations.
“These road infrastructure projects are part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to tackle insecurity,” Umahi said.
He noted that the completed roads would not only benefit residents of the North-East but also improve connectivity with neighbouring Chad and Cameroon, boosting regional trade and cross-border movement.
Umahi added that the upgraded road network would provide the military with easier access to remote areas, enabling security forces to sustain operations against the remnants of insurgent groups.
“When these projects are completed, the people of the North-East will benefit because the roads connect to Chad and Cameroon. More importantly, our military will have the infrastructure needed to confront whatever remains of the insurgency,” he said.
The Federal Government has consistently maintained that improving critical infrastructure, particularly in conflict-affected regions, is key to enhancing security, promoting economic recovery, and fostering long-term development.
