Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi has publicly distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, after her name surfaced on the party’s newly unveiled campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abraham-Ajeyemi was listed as a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, alongside prominent entertainers including Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere, Saheed Osupa, and Adewale Ayuba.
The 33-member directorate is headed by Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director, with Kosoko as Co-Director and Badmus as Deputy Director.
The campaign council was unveiled on Thursday, ahead of its scheduled inauguration at the APC Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, as the party ramps up preparations for the 2027 polls.
Shortly after the list went public, Abraham took to her Instagram Story to reject the reported appointment.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
Abraham’s pushback comes against the backdrop of her prior brush with Nigerian politics. During the 2023 presidential election, she openly backed President Bola Tinubu, a stance that drew criticism and online backlash, some of it directed at her family.
The fallout resurfaced in 2024, when Abraham took action against individuals she accused of making defamatory statements about her and her family. In one incident, an X user identified as “Big Ayo” made allegations linking Abraham, her husband Kolawole Ajeyemi, and funds allegedly tied to Tinubu.
However, Abraham denied the claims and reported the matter to cybercrime authorities, later clarifying that she had not caused the arrest of the user’s mother but had filed a petition over what she described as cyberbullying.
The episode triggered further backlash, with some users threatening to petition streaming platforms over her films. In an emotional Instagram Live session in July 2024, Abraham said the sustained attacks had pushed her to her limit, adding that while she could tolerate criticism aimed at her personally, she would not accept attacks on her child.
Despite Abraham’s denial, her name remains on the published list of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate. As of the latest reports, the Lagos APC campaign council has offered no public explanation for her inclusion.
For now, Abraham has asked the public to disregard her name on the list, reaffirming her intention to stay out of partisan politics.
