The Lagos State Government has arraigned over 100 suspects before the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court in Bolade, Oshodi, over alleged public disturbance in Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah areas.
In a statement released on Monday via its official channels, the government said the defendants were charged with breach of public peace, unlawful conversion of government property, and conduct likely to cause a breakdown of law and order.
The prosecution team, led by Oluwabusola Omotunde on behalf of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, told the court that the suspects were arrested between 2am and 4am on Friday, September 4, 2026, during raids across the Victoria Island-Lekki-Ajah axis.
According to the charges, the defendants were accused of disrupting public peace and converting government property to personal use.
During the arraignment, some pleaded guilty while others pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Magistrate, F.J. Adefioye, stressed the need for deterrence while ensuring due process is followed.
The court sentenced those who pleaded guilty to Counts I and II to one month and two months of community service respectively, with an option of imprisonment. The sentences are to run consecutively.
The suspects who pleaded not guilty were remanded and granted bail with two sureties each.
Speaking after the proceedings, Coordinator of the Mobile Court, Olufemi Adekunle, said the government remains committed to enforcing law and order and protecting residents and businesses in the state.
He added that “similar Mobile Court sittings will continue across the state to ensure that offenders are prosecuted promptly and that public spaces remain safe for all.”
The arraignment comes as the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court intensifies its mandate to handle public order, environmental, and traffic offences across the state.
