A mechanic identified as Samson has been killed after he was allegedly lured to Abijo, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, under the guise of repairing a Mercedes-Benz car.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 15.
Samson, who operated a mechanic workshop around Warike Estate in the area, was said to have received a call to repair a Mercedes-Benz and proceeded to the location.
A police source said that the mechanic was allegedly taken into a bush upon arrival, where he was killed.
“The victim was lured to the location on the pretext of going to repair a Mercedes-Benz car. We were told that when he got there, he was taken into the bush and killed.
“Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible,” the source said.
The source added that suspected cultists were believed to be behind the killing.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform alleged that Samson’s death was a retaliatory killing linked to a cult clash in the area.
According to the platform, an Eiye member identified as Ola Sheu was killed by members of the NBM on September 9 around Adeba Bus Stop in Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki.
The platform claimed that Samson’s alleged affiliation with the Eiye cult was only discovered after a photograph of him wearing an Eiye beret during his graduation was posted online to celebrate his birthday.
It alleged that the discovery led to his being targeted in retaliation for Sheu’s death.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident but said the deceased’s family initially reported that his whereabouts were unknown.
She said detectives had commenced an investigation after receiving the report and visited Samson’s apartment.
“Efforts are ongoing to track Samson’s mobile phone and locate him. The case remains under investigation,” Adebisi added.
