The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said no previous Nigerian President has done as much as President Bola Tinubu’s administration in terms of appointments, political inclusion and infrastructure projects in the South-East.
Umahi made the claim on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, following the students’ nationwide tour of federal road projects.
According to the minister, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated its commitment to the region through various federal projects and appointments.
“No other President has done what President Tinubu has done for the South-East, whether by appointment, inclusion or projects,” Umahi said.
The former Ebonyi State governor also urged leaders in the South-East to educate residents about what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration in the region.
He further made a political claim about the 2027 presidential election, saying increased political awareness would reduce Peter Obi’s support.
“The more we educate our people, the less votes Peter Obi will get. Peter Obi cannot win in 2027,” Umahi said.
Umahi also called on South-East leaders to be more vocal in communicating the Federal Government’s projects and interventions to the people.
“It is important for the leaders of the South-East to be bold, vocal and speak to our people, the Igbos, about what President Tinubu has done and is doing for the Igbos,” he said.
The minister also commended Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for openly supporting Tinubu, saying politicians and citizens should be allowed to express their political preferences without being subjected to insults.
Umahi’s remarks came during an engagement with NANS, which presented its assessment of federal road projects inspected across the country.
The students’ association said its tour was aimed at assessing the condition and progress of federal roads, particularly those serving tertiary institutions, and providing feedback to the government.
