President Bola Tinubu has urged his son, Seyi Tinubu, to intensify his youth mobilisation efforts through the City Boy Movement, praising him for engaging young Nigerians without seeking a political office or title.
The President gave the commendation on Monday at an event organised by the movement at the State House, Abuja, where he publicly acknowledged his son’s activities and encouraged him to contribute more to national development.
Tinubu said he had received calls from people asking about Seyi’s political ambitions, prompting him to clarify that his son was focused on following his example rather than pursuing a specific political position.
“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.
The President praised Seyi and his associates for dedicating their time to meeting young people, listening to their concerns and organising them, describing their approach as humble and commendable.
“You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you. You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office.
“You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organized them. I am proud of all of you,” he said.
However, Tinubu stressed that the recognition should not make his son complacent, urging him to expand his efforts and set a positive example for future generations.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” the President added.
He also urged young Nigerians to regard public service as an honour, noting that the country was watching how the younger generation contributed to its future.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” Tinubu said.
Seyi Tinubu’s growing role in youth mobilisation
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, a group that mobilises young Nigerians in support of his father’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The movement has organised activities aimed at strengthening grassroots engagement and encouraging youth participation in public affairs.
His involvement has attracted increasing public attention, particularly amid discussions about political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, Tinubu’s remarks at the State House focused on his son’s engagement with young people rather than announcing any formal political ambition.
At a colloquium marking his 41st birthday in Lagos on October 12, Seyi also urged young Nigerians to participate in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
Tinubu’s message to his son combined praise with a call for greater commitment, emphasising that youth mobilisation should translate into sustained service and positive examples for future generations.
