A man identified as Taiwo Saheed has allegedly been killed by suspected cultists in the Atan area of Ogun State, with a video purportedly showing the incident circulating on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, in what was suspected to be a reprisal attack involving members of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity.

Footage of the incident showed Saheed lying in a pool of blood as one of the assailants repeatedly struck him with what appeared to be a machete before severing his head. Other members of the group were seen cheering during the attack.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday, saying investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.

The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the police were also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“The Ogun State Police Command is intensifying investigations into the murder of Taiwo Saheed in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, on 15 October 2026.

“Proactive efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, unravel the circumstances of the incident, and ensure justice is served,” Oluseyi said.

Atan has recorded previous incidents of alleged cult-related violence.

In April, the police arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The suspects were identified as Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28.

They were reportedly arrested after a complaint was lodged at a police station at about 11.30pm on April 16, 2026.
