Borussia Dortmund has line up former Manchester United boss, Erik Ten Haag as a leading candidate to replace Nuri Sahin if the club fail to win Champions League clash with Bologna

Dortmund suffered a 2-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, their seventh in 18 Bundesliga matches this season, and pressure is building on Sahin.

The ex-midfielder replaced Edin Terzic in the summer but their dismal form leaves him hanging by a thread, with Sky Sport in Germany reporting he will be dismissed if they do not win their next match.

The report says that Ten Hag is one of the top candidates Dortmund could choose to replace Sahin, with the Dutch coach out of work since his November sacking by Manchester United. The 54-year-old has already worked in Germany having coached Bayern Munich II while Pep Guardiola was in charge of the senior team. He then returned to his homeland to coach Utrecht and Ajax before moving on to the Old Trafford job.

Germany assistant coach and former Bayern striker Sandro Wagner is also being considered by the Bundesliga team while Sebastian Hoeness, currently impressing at Stuttgart, is another option.

Sahin has been warned that his side “need” a win by managing director Lars Ricken ahead of their match against Bologna in the Champions League on Tuesday. Failure to collect three points could see him pushed out before his maiden season is over
