The Rivers State Police Command has rejected reports of a shooting incident involving rival political factions at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Port Harcourt. While acknowledging internal tensions within the party, the police clarified that claims of an armed clash were completely false and misleading.

Various online platforms had circulated reports suggesting that supporters of opposing PDP factions had engaged in a gunfight at the secretariat.

However, in a statement released on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, dismissed these allegations as a deliberate attempt to incite panic.

“The Rivers State Police Command is aware of recent reports circulating online, alleging a gun battle between conflicting political groups at the PDP Secretariat on Aba Road, Port Harcourt,” the statement read. “We want to categorically state that this report is entirely false and misleading. No such incident was reported or witnessed by the Police.”

The statement continued, emphasizing that police personnel were quickly deployed to key locations, including the PDP Secretariat. After investigating the claims, the police confirmed that it was a false alarm, fabricated by mischief makers attempting to cause unrest.

“The Rivers State Police Command strongly warns individuals or groups spreading false information to stop fueling unnecessary tension. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents in the state and will continue to uphold law and order,” the statement added. “We urge the public to disregard these baseless rumors and place their trust in the professionalism and dedication of the police in maintaining peace.”

The police reassured the public of their ongoing vigilance and encouraged everyone to rely on verified sources for accurate information.
