Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs, has re-entered the Nigerian film industry with the release of her latest movie, Hatred.

This marks her return to Nollywood after her dismissal from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet on October 23, 2024, alongside four other ministers.

Kennedy-Ohanenye, 51, was appointed to the ministerial role on August 21, 2023, but her tenure was cut short following a cabinet reshuffle by President Tinubu.

Since leaving public office, she has refocused her efforts on her creative pursuits, announcing the release of Hatred on her YouTube platform, Kenuj TV, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, February 5.

“Excited to share my latest project Hatred with you all. Watch now on Kenuj TV,” she wrote, sharing the film’s link.

Her return to Nollywood represents a significant shift in her career trajectory after her time in government. Before venturing into politics, Kennedy-Ohanenye was actively involved in the creative industry, making her comeback to filmmaking a natural progression.

Controversial Tenure and Dismissal

Kennedy-Ohanenye’s time as Minister of Women Affairs was marked by controversy. She faced widespread criticism for her handling of sensitive issues, particularly those related to child abuse and women’s rights.

Her dismissal was reportedly due to a loss of confidence in her performance, as part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to restructure his cabinet.

Despite the challenges she faced in her ministerial role, Kennedy-Ohanenye has remained active, returning to the entertainment industry where she initially established her reputation.

Her latest project, Hatred, signals a new chapter in her career as she reconnects with her roots in Nollywood.
