The House of Representatives will convene today, February 12, 2025, to debate four tax reform bills sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.
On September 3, 2024, Tinubu submitted the bills for consideration following recommendations from the Taiwo Oyedele-led Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
The bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, designed to establish a comprehensive fiscal framework for taxation; the Tax Administration Bill, which aims to clarify legal frameworks and reduce tax-related disputes; the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, which seeks to repeal the Federal Inland Revenue Service Act and create the Nigeria Revenue Service; and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, which proposes the establishment of a tax tribunal and a tax ombudsman.
A lawmaker with knowledge of the matter confirmed the debate will take place today.
