Jimmy Odukoya, Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, recently revealed the divine guidance that led him to keep his dreadlocks, a choice that has drawn mixed reactions both within and outside the church.
In a sermon posted on Facebook, Odukoya explained that his hairstyle was not a fashion choice, but rather a command from God.
Before returning to Nigeria, Odukoya sought God’s direction about whether he should cut his hair, and God told him not to. Despite his initial doubts, Odukoya chose to obey. “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but I’m crazy enough to follow you,” he recalled telling God at the time.
Odukoya’s sister, Associate Senior Pastor Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun, had expressed concern about his appearance, suggesting that to connect with people and inspire change, he needed to look more relatable. However, after praying about it, Tolu received a vision from God confirming that her brother should keep his dreadlocks.
The most significant confirmation of Odukoya’s decision came when a woman from Zimbabwe shared a powerful story.
She revealed that in 2016, she had a vision of Odukoya with long hair, in which he helped her through personal struggles. At the time, she didn’t know who he was, but years later, after enduring a divorce and the loss of her mother, she stumbled upon one of his sermons on YouTube. When she saw Odukoya preaching with dreadlocks, she instantly recognized him as the man from her vision.
Odukoya shared that this encounter was God’s way of saving the woman’s life, as he had obeyed the call to keep his dreadlocks. He emphasized that had he cut his hair, the woman might not have recognized him, and the vision would have been meaningless.
In 2023, after succeeding his late father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, as senior pastor of the church, Odukoya reaffirmed that his appearance and style were spiritually guided.
