Popular Nollywood actress, Aishat Lawal is a familiar face on screen, but behind the scenes, she’s all about staying true to herself. In a recent chat with Pot-Pourri, the actress spoke candidly about fame, handling industry backlash, and her decision to keep her personal life out of the spotlight.

Addressing criticism about the frequent appearance of the same actors in multiple movies, Lawal didn’t mince words.

“To the critics, I ask—would you be okay if you lost your job just because someone now graduated from university?” she said. “There’s beauty in blending seasoned actors with fresh faces. Some roles demand experience. Sure, it’d be off to cast Femi Adebayo as a university student, but Gabriel Afolayan can pull it off thanks to his youthful look.”

She continued with a touch of humor: “Or should we just start selling fish or TomTom instead?”

One reason Lawal has remained scandal-free in an industry often buzzing with controversy is her deliberate avoidance of social media drama.

“I do my best to stay away from social media noise,” she said. “I don’t live for validation. People’s opinions don’t define me. If you think I’m poor, that’s your opinion—and that’s fine.”

While many celebrities share every aspect of their lives online, Lawal is intentional about maintaining her privacy.

“You’ll never see my husband or siblings on my page,” she explained. “He’s not a fan of social media, and honestly, neither am I. We don’t live for the ‘likes’; we live for ourselves. I want a private life—and I have it.”
