Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, as his political son, downplaying the intensity of their ongoing political disagreement.
Speaking in a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike dismissed claims of a personal feud, asserting that his grievances are directed not at Fubara himself, but at individuals allegedly manipulating the governor.
“That’s not a battle,” Wike stated. “He (Fubara) is my boy, my son. Why would I fight him? My problem is with those trying to reap where they did not sow.”
He further clarified that his opposition is aimed at political opportunists: “If you don’t defeat them, they’ll think they’ve succeeded. You must defeat them completely. Now they’re ashamed because they’re losing they’re the ones pushing Fubara.”
The political standoff between Wike and Fubara has fueled a prolonged crisis in Rivers State since 2023.
Amid rising tensions, President Bola Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency in the state and suspended Fubara, who is believed to have extended an apology to his estranged mentor.
