The Ogun State Government has announced plans to use the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), known as the Gateway Games, to showcase its rich cultural heritage and tourism potential.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Abeokuta, Mr. Dare Odufowokan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications, emphasized that the event goes beyond sports. He described it as a strategic platform to highlight the state’s unique cultural identity and warm hospitality.

“This festival is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of our culture, a unifying force, and a boost to tourism,” Odufowokan stated.

He also encouraged media outlets to portray Ogun State positively, emphasizing its values, welcoming spirit, and vibrant cultural scene.

Also speaking at the briefing, Mr. Adekunle Solaja, Chairman of the NSF Media Sub-Committee, urged journalists to give the festival wide coverage, noting its importance in driving sports development and youth engagement across the country.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the festival commenced on May 16 and will run until May 30 in Abeokuta.
