Actress and filmmaker Laide Bakare has expressed her concern over the lack of appreciation for the entertainment industry among Nigeria’s political elite.
In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, Bakare who currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Entertainment, Arts, Culture, and Tourism highlighted the untapped potential of the entertainment sector as a powerful driver of economic growth.
“Our research shows the problem stems from leadership. Many at the top fail to recognize the vital role entertainment plays in national development,” she explained. “That’s why we’re launching fresh initiatives to change that mindset.”
Positioning herself as a trailblazer at the intersection of governance and entertainment, Bakare declared, “I’m not just participating, I’m reshaping politics. Entertainment deserves serious attention, both for its economic value and the doors it opens for countless Nigerians.”
Looking back at Nollywood’s progress, she expressed satisfaction with the strides the industry has made.
“It’s rewarding to witness how far we’ve come. Years ago, when we spoke about our five-to-eight-year vision, this is exactly what we hoped for. Today, that dream has become reality, and I’m genuinely thankful,” she said.
